In many countries, including Germany, the hedgehog is protected by law year-round. In some countries, it’s already listed on the “Red List” of animals threatened with extinction.
It’s nocturnal and retreats to its den during the day. This den should not only be warm and comfortable—it must also protect the hedgehog and its young from prowling dogs and curious cats.
The hedgehog stays within its garden territory once it has found sufficient food and a good nesting spot. Then it doesn’t have to roam around and is safe from cars.

This is especially important because the hedgehog house must be covered with soil, leaves, and branches. Only then does it become the ideal hedgehog nest. The covering serves as camouflage, insulation, and protection. This makes it nearly impossible for predators to dig it up.

Easy to Set Up
Place the Denk Hedgehog House in a quiet spot in the garden. It should be a secluded spot that is as dry and level as possible. Rainwater must be able to drain away, so the hedgehog house should not be placed in a low-lying area.
Place the hedgehog house directly on the ground. Remove any grass or leaves beforehand. First, place the dome on the ground. Then carefully slide the entrance tube into the opening.
Now cover the hedgehog house with soil, grass sod, leaves, and twigs, leaving the entrance open. The covering serves as insulation and camouflage, keeping the hedgehog or hedgehog family protected and safe. The CeraNatur ceramic is particularly sturdy and won’t be damaged by the weight of the covering.
Easy to Clean
Cleaning the hedgehog house is only necessary after hibernation (in the spring)—once it is no longer inhabited.
The ceramic can be cleaned with dish soap and a brush or even with a steam cleaner.
