Earwig house

Period of use: May to October

The earwig is a useful and harmless insect. Its preferred food includes harmful aphids and spider mites, which can cause considerable damage to fruit and flowers. The earwig acts as a biological pest controller for humans; you just need to introduce it into your garden.

Earwigs are nocturnal and retreat to our earwig house during the day to sleep. An earwig house can accommodate up to 100 earwigs. The earwig house is inhabited between May and October. The earwig house should be placed as close to the ground as possible in a shady spot over a tree stump. It can also be placed on a wooden stick directly in the rose bed or vegetable patch, then the earwigs will get straight to work. Depending on the size of the area, several earwig houses can be set up. Cleaning is not necessary. The earwig houses are made from our natural ceramic. The material is climate-regulating and completely frost-resistant.

Green lacewing house

Period of use: October to April

Green lacewings are valued and even bred in organic farming and forestry as biological pest controllers. Green lacewings do not look dangerous, nor are they dangerous to humans or animals. Only plant pests such as mites and aphids need to fear green lacewings. The larvae of the green lacewing, also known as ‘aphid lions’, devour the pests with gusto. Just like the adult insect.

That is why it makes a lot of sense to introduce green lacewings to your garden. With its natural yellow-red ceramic colour, our lacewing house magically attracts these beneficial insects. The house is filled with straw in autumn and hung on fruit trees. It remains there until the end of April. Lacewings hibernate in it and the following spring, larvae and insects can immediately begin pest control.

Insect watering place

Period of use: February to November

Climate change is currently leading to a reduction in rainfall. In addition, rainfall is very unevenly distributed. It doesn't rain for a long time and then suddenly it rains a lot. As a result, insects sometimes suffer from water shortages. For this reason, providing suitable insect watering places for the animals is essential for their survival. Our earwig house/green lacewing house is designed so that the lower edge also serves as an insect watering place. Rainwater is collected or the insect protector regularly fills it with water. The water trough can only be used by flying insects. Ants are not attracted to it. Whether used as an earwig house (on a stick) or a lacewing house (hanging), it can always be used as an insect watering place.
