How does the Denk Yogurt Maker XL work?
The key to how the Denk Yogurt Maker XL works is the high heat retention and, at the same time, low thermal conductivity of our granite-ceramic material. Granicium® retains heat about 20 times longer than steel. The feet of the Denk Yogurt Maker ensure minimal heat transfer to the surface it rests on. Together with the heat cap, the milk cools very slowly over several hours. This is ideal for making yogurt.
Here’s how easy it is to make Denk yogurt
- Briefly heat up to 1500 ml of milk to approximately 80°C. You can measure the temperature in the pot using the included thermometer.
- Then pour the milk into the yogurt maker and place the lid with the thermometer on top.
- At room temperature (approx. 20°–22°C), the milk will now cool down to 45°–42°C within about 1 hour.
- Now stir 6 tablespoons of fresh yogurt with the longest possible best-by date, or a pinch of dried yogurt cultures, into the milk using a whisk.
- Replace the lid (without the thermometer).
- Pull the knitted warming cover over the top.
Now the fermentation process begins, and the yogurt cultures get to work. The yogurt maker should be left undisturbed at room temperature (about 20°–22°C) for about 8 hours. After that, the yogurt is ready to eat. To develop the full yogurt flavor, you can then let it mature in the refrigerator for another 12 hours.
To make your next batch of yogurt, remove six tablespoons of the fresh yogurt and store it in the refrigerator. Within three days, you can use it to make fresh yogurt again.
